Sid Bernstein Today

Spoke to Sid Bernstein recently. For all who don't know who Sid is, he is probably the most famous promoter that ever lived. He brought the Beatles to the USA in 1964 and the rest is history. His story is truly interesting. Sid is in his eighties now and beleive it or not, he's starting to promote again! His pet project is a group of well known musicians called "Fab Faux" featuring Jimmy Vivino (of Conan O"brian's Show). They could be the best Beatles cover band around. You will definitely hear more about them.

LINDSAY'S FAMILY IN TROUBLE AGAIN

June 22, 2005, 2:50 AM EDT

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. -- Lindsay Lohan's uncle was arrested Tuesday on charges that he fraudulently used a loan his company received under a federal program to aid a small business affected by the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, authorities said.

Paul Sullivan, president and CEO of the Ropa Group Corp., applied for a $1.5 million loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration in July 2002, according to a criminal complaint.

The Ropa Group claimed to be the exclusive agent for the Hyundai Motor Co. to the United Nations; it also claimed to run a wine exporting company and other subsidieries, the complaint said.

Sullivan said in his application for the loan that the terrorist attacks had reduced orders from the United Nations and limited his company's participation in trade shows, according to the complaint.

The government then granted Ropa Group a loan of $646,900, specifying that $98,000 be used for working capital and $548,300 be used to pay off outstanding debts and liabilities, the complaint said. Checks were sent made out jointly to Ropa Group and several of its debtors.

Sullivan cashed checks in the amounts of $70,300, $80,000 and $61,300, but the company's debtors were never paid, the complaint said. The debtors' endorsements on the checks had been forged, it said.

Sullivan was arraigned Tuesday afternoon before E. Thomas Boyle in U.S. District Court in Central Islip and released on $250,000 bond, authorities said.

Sullivan denied the charges.

"Everything is fine," he told the New York Daily News for Wednesday editions. "It's a misunderstanding."

Barry Z's new Variety Show

Plans are in the works for a new variety TV show with cable TV star Barry Z as the host. We have not seen the likes of anything of this nature for many years now. Right now, we are shopping for a venue in the New York City area. It will be taped every Monday night starting in September 2005. The next Ed Sullivan? I certainly hope so. Any readers with talent or unusual abilities that would like a shot on television are encouraged to contact me. You may be the next star on the horizon!

2005 PINK FLOYD

I found it hard to beleive that Pink Floyd is once again coming together for the Live8 Concerts coming up in a few weeks. Last year, I had a drink with Roger Water's road manager here on Long Island (Roger spends his summers here). He told me that Roger and David Gilmour would never play together again, too much bad blood. Nick Mason was the only member still playing occationaly with Roger. It's nice to see that a great cause and not just money has brought them all together again. No word yet if this is only the beginning. Roger has been working on solo work and his new Broadway play "The Wall". Time will tell.
